William Worth Belknap (1829-1890) was Brigadier General and United States Army Secretary of War. He supported President Lincoln's war efforts and served at Shiloh (where he was wounded), Corinth, Vicksburg and Atlanta. He was made Brigadier General of United States Volunteers in 1864 and Major General in 1865 for gallant and meritorious services. In March 1876, he was accused of accepting over $24,000 in bribes from a post trader seeking immunity from removal. He resigned his post, was impeached by a unanimous vote of the United States Senate, but was acquitted.

Jerome B. Chaffee (1825-1886) was a Republican and territorial delegate to the US Congress. Together with John Evans, he was instrumental in bringing statehood to Colorado in 1876. After Colorado was admitted to the Union, Chaffee was elected to the US Senate.
