Samuel Eliot Morison was a Harvard professor and historian who wrote many books on Harvard's history, including his Harvard College in the Seventeenth Century (1936) in which he published a portion of this commonplace book. Elnathan Chauncy (d. 1684) was the son of Harvard's President Charles Chauncy and a received his AB from Harvard College in 1661. George Lyman Kittredge (1860-1941) was a Harvard professor of English literature. Kenneth Ballard Murdock (1895-1975) graduated from Harvard in 1916, taught English at Harvard and served as Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
