New York politician, statesman, naturalist, and historian.

In 1817 Clinton was elected governor of the state of New York and also president of the New-York Historical Society, which he had helped to found. Interested in the history and traditions of New York Indians, Clinton published his Memoir of the Antiquities of the Western Parts of the State of New York in 1820.

DeWitt Clinton (1769-1828) was an eminent New York politician who was instrumental in the passing of landmark legislation and the building of the Erie Canal. He was a United States Senator from 1802 to 1803; Mayor of New York City for the majority of the period of 1803 to 1815; and Governor of New York from 1817 to 1821 and 1825 to 1828 (1).

Leffert Lefferts (1774-1847) was a Bedford lawyer and later a Kings County judge.

John Wyckoff was Kings County Sheriff from 1825 to 1828.
