Humane Society of the City of New-York
Variant namesOrganization founded in 1787 as Society for the Relief of Distressed Debtors. Incorporated as Humane Society in 1814, it was located on the lot of ground given to it by the common council next to the alms-house to the rear of the debtors' prison at Bridwell.
