Bank of the Manhattan Company
The Bank of the Manhattan Company (BMC) was opened in September, 1799, with extra capital from the Manhattan Company, which the company charter permitted to be used to establish an "office of discount and deposit." The BMC merged with the Chase National Bank in 1955 to form the Chase Manhattan Bank.
