Biographical notes:

The North American Review was founded in Boston, Mass. in 1815. Early editors included Jared Sparks, Edward Everett, and Alexander Hill Everett. In 1835 John Gorham Palfrey purchased the magazine and served as its editor until December 1842 when he sold his controlling interest to Francis Bowen.
