Thomas Pownall was a British colonial politician and author. In 1776 he wrote a one volume work called A Topographical Description of the Dominions of the United States of America . Some time later, he began revising the work for a new edition.

New Jersey lieutenant governor, 1755-1756, who having no duties, was able to travel the colonies and study their defense and administration.
