Founder of Islesford Historical Museum and physics professor, of Islesford, Me. (Little Cranberry Island); in 1915 purchased the Islesford wharf to provide public access to the island; with the encouragement of three local painters: Charles Kincaid, C. Scott White, and Harold B. Wheeler, Sawtelle purchased a store in 1917 which would be used as a gallery (Blue Duck) to house the many town records and items of local historical interest which had been collected. Later foreseeing a need to preserve area history the Islesford Historical Committee (later renamed Islesford Collection Inc.) was established (ca. 1926) to raise funds for the construction of a larger fire proof building which would become the Islesford Historical Museum.

Founder of Islesford Historical Museum and physics professor, of Islesford, Me. (Little Cranberry Island). Began the Islesford Collection in 1919 with the primary object to gather historic and antiquarian materials relating to the Cranberry Isles (Baker, Bear, Great Cranberry, Little Cranberry, and Sutton) and the Town of Cranberry Isles and house such materials in his museum/gallery in Islesford known as the Blue Duck (also called the Islesford Museum). Since the growth of the collection was rapid it became clear that a larger building was needed and the Islesford Historical Committee was established (ca. 1926) and later renamed the Islesford Collection Inc. Through the endeavors of this organization the Islesford Historical Museum would be built.
