Millard, Bailey, 1859-1941. Letter, 1937, October 15, Times Office, Los Angeles [to] Virgil [Markham, Staten Island, New York] / Bailey Millard.
Title:
Letter, 1937, October 15, Times Office, Los Angeles [to] Virgil [Markham, Staten Island, New York] / Bailey Millard. 1937.
In a previous letter, Virgil had stated that Ruth LaPrade had ceased her "sinister activities." Millard reports that this is not the case, as she, accompanied by Louis William Schantz, had dropped by the LA Times office to report that Mr. Markham was restored to good health and that the family (i.e. Virgil) was not permitting others to see Edwin Markham. Millard stated to her that he did not believe it and even if it was true, it was not their business. An attached clipping reports on Mr. Markham's good health.

She send him a list of names for him to use in his new book. Last week, she says that she had sent him a booklet containing names of Penwomen. She also had the pleasure of telling, everyone at her branch, about our visit. They were interested in hearing about him, Mrs. Markham, and his library. She askes him about his health and about Virgil. Now she is at their mountain cabin near Santa Cruz. Her children love to visit Villa Montatve at Saratoga. And that Senator Phelan donated that as a park to the San Francisco Art Association. To her surprise, there is a bronze bust of Mr. Markham, John Muir, and Joaquin Miller. Also her daughter send her regards to Mr. and Mrs. Markham. Then she askes if Virgil could please return the poems from the last Montalve contest.
