Regrets to hear of Edwin Markham's afflication following a trip to Mexico City. He is also much concerned about Mrs. Markham's health. He also thinks it right that Virgil may come to California to research his fictional works. By this time Virgil was writing mysteries. Written on Los Angeles Times letterhead.

Bailey Millard (1859-1941) was born in Markesan, Wisconsin. Much of his education was obtained as a printer's devil and tramp printer. He worked his way west through a succession of newspaper and printing shops. In the 1890s he was city editor or literary editor of the San Francisco Call and the Examiner, and in 1918-1919 was managing editor of the San Francisco Evening Bulletin .
