[Letter] 1938, November 18, [Staten Island, New York] [to] Mr. Cornelius Greenway, Brooklyn, New York / Edwin Markham. 1938.

Informs Greenway that he was very ill, but has recovered. He also tells him that he might be only arround for a view more months or may be years. Asks him to preach at his funeral ceremony. In the foot note of the letter, which is addressed to Virgil Connie writes that this a letter he might want to have of his father.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
