Millard indicates that he has just returned from his annual vacation. He agrees to include some information regarding the Harris business. He will not cover the more salacious details of Harris's life however. "I expressly stipulate that I'll be allowed the privilege of not dragging the beautiful character of our poet too deep in the mire." Invites Virgil and Kit to visit California, as he has a new and commodius car. Written on Los Angeles Times letterhead.

Bailey Millard (1859-1941) was born in Markesan, Wisconsin. Much of his education was obtained as a printer's devil and tramp printer. He worked his way west through a succession of newspaper and printing shops. In the 1890s he was city editor or literary editor of the San Francisco Call and the Examiner, and in 1918-1919 was managing editor of the San Francisco Evening Bulletin .
