Millard reports that Virgil's aunt Mary is feeling much better and wishes to continue to live in her own home. He understands, as he too prefers to live alone, in spite of entreaties by his daughter, Gladys. He comments on the upcoming election and FDR's decision to run for a third term. Written on Los Angeles Times letterhead.

Bailey Millard (1859-1941) was born in Markesan, Wisconsin. Much of his education was obtained as a printer's devil and tramp printer. He worked his way west through a succession of newspaper and printing shops. In the 1890s he was city editor or literary editor of the San Francisco Call and the Examiner, and in 1918-1919 was managing editor of the San Francisco Evening Bulletin .
