Eva is writing Virgil. She discusses an old friend Gladys from California. She speaks very highly of the Markhams and that not seeing them as they grew old has kept a "perfect and clear memory" of them. She would like Virgil to read them the letter. She will never forget them. Lastly, she refers to Virgil's birthday.
