She discusses a man Stanley Hugh and Martin. Martin is suppose to handle thier case. Virgil recieved great reviews from the S.F Chronicle on his writing. He learns of Mr. Judd's death. Wants copy of Cobbs letter back. She is going to see the play Electra with Mrs. H. She is also seeing Mrs. Rooney they have accepted the poem pamphlet.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901).
