Also includes extensive business and financial records, with a few miscellaneous papers, including awards and clippings the Grabhorn's kept about the press.

The records of the American Federation of Arts (AFA) provide researchers with a complete set of documentation focusing on the founding and history of the organization from its inception through the 1960s. The collection measures 79.8 linear feet, and dates from 1895 through 1993, although the bulk of the material falls between 1909 and 1969. Valuable for its coverage of twentieth-century American art history, the collection also provides researchers with fairly comprehensive documentation of the many exhibitions and programs supported and implemented by the AFA to promote and study contemporary American art, both nationally and abroad.

American art critic, curator, and collector. Papers document Soby's nearly 45-year career in 20th-century art scholarship and criticism. Materials date from about 1929, when Soby became a partner in Edwin Valentine Mitchell, Inc., booksellers and publishers, to his retirement from the board of trustees at the Museum of Modern Art, New York in 1975. The bulk of the collection comprises correspondence from 20th-century artists and photographers, MoMA personnel, curators, critics, friends and family members.

The papers of architectural historian, author, critic, teacher, and museum director, Henry-Russell Hitchcock, date from 1919-1987 and measure 24.8 linear feet. Almost all of the collection is comprised of Hitchcock's correspondence files relating to academic research, teaching, curatorial interests, and professional associations. Letters are from prominent architectural historians, architects, artists, preservationists, museum directors and curators, and family and friends. Also found are two feet of writings by Hitchcock and others, scattered biographical information, miscellaneous records, printed material, and photographs of Hitchcock and architecture.Among the biographical documents are Hitchcock's birth certificate, passport, and wills. Awards, citations, honorary degrees and commendations are from the University of Pennsylvania, Wesleyan University, the Friends of Cast Iron Architecture, National Institute of Arts and Letters, and the Victorian Society in America.Chronological name and subject files consist mostly of correspondence and printed material along with a small number of photographs. They include personal and professional correspondence and subject files relating to academic research, teaching, curatorial interests, and professional associations. The correspondence includes large numbers of letters from prominent architectural historians, architects, artists, preservationists, museum directors and curators. Also included are students, friends, relatives, publishers, and representatives of organizations and institutions. Among those of note are: Jere Abbott, Everett A. (Chick) Austin, Alfred H. Architectural subjects include the work of Frank Lloyd Wright and Gaudi, as well as interior and exterior views of buildings identified only by location. Photographs of people include Henry-Russell Hitchcock, Chick Austin and Ernestine Carter, Alexander Dorner, Tammy Grimes, Lincoln Kirstein, the Steinway family, and Edgar Tafel. Events recorded include the Society of Architectural Historians at the Newport Casino, Hitchcock receiving honorary degrees at the University of Glasgow and Wesleyan University, and a high tea sponsored by the Victorian Society in America. Family houses and views of Greece are among the photographs of places. Miscellaneous subjects include exhibition installations and family heirlooms.

The Gertrude Stein and Alice B. ToklasCollection contains manuscripts, letters, photographs, clippings, artworks, andresearch materials relating to the life and work of Gertrude Stein and hercompanion, Alice B. Toklas gathered during the years following Stein's death tosupplement the Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas Papers (YCAL MSS 76). Itemsfrom such friends and admirers as Elizabeth Fuller Chapman, Doda Conrad,Clement Hurd, Samuel Steward, and Donald Sutherland complement the originalgroup of Stein papers. Series I, Writings, includes drafts of works byStein and several posthumously published items, along with a group of writingsby Alice B. Toklas. Series II, Correspondence, contains long runs of lettersfrom Stein to: Edward Aswell, Henry Phelan Gibb, William Garland Rogers, SamuelSteward, Donald Sutherland, and Virgil Thomson, all of which were acquired fromthe original recipients and several outgoing letters from Gertrude Stein andfrom Alice Toklas. Series III, Other Papers, contains research materialsfrom Stein scholars, files from the Atlantic Monthly concerning theirpublication of Stein's work, several musical settings of Stein works, and DodaConrad's files concerning a fund for Alice Toklas. Series IV and V containPrinted Materials and Series VI contains Photographs, some of Stein and Toklas,but principally of artworks owned by Stein and of posthumous productions ofStein plays. Series VII and VIII (Artworks and Objects), includes a collagepainting by Pablo Picasso and a number of paintings by Sir Francis Rose. SeriesIX, Film and Sound Recordings, contains a film of Stein and Toklas at the HotelPernollet in Belley France around 1927 and several audio recordings of Steinreadings her works.
