Italian architect and designer Ettore Sottsass appeared in conversation with Wim de Wit of the Getty Research Institute's Special Collections, at the Getty Center March 14, 2006. Sottsass was the subject of a 2006 exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and joined de Wit to discuss his design philosophy and work as well as his opinion about the current state of the design field.

"Sound and Space in the Rothko Chapel" was a lecture and performance event held at the Getty Center on March 23, 2005. The lecture by Thomas Crow examined the relationship and diaglogue between Mark Rothko and other Abstract Expressionist painters and composer Morton Feldman. Following Crow's lecture was a performance of Feldman's compositions - "Rothko Chapel," "de Kooning," "The Viola in My Life 2" and "I Met Heine on the Rue Furstenberg" - by the Nimbus Ensemble.

"Structures and Systems: Minimal Art in the United States" was a scholarly conference held at the Getty Center on May 1, 2004, in conjunction with the Museum of Contemporary Art (Los Angeles) exhibition "A Minimal Future? Focused on examining the acoustical and durational side of Minimalism in music, the event included a scholarly conference, a roundtable discussion, and performances at both the Getty Center and at the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
