Mabbott authored critical works on Edgar Allan Poe. Conrad was the first mayor of Greater Philadelphia from 1854-1857. Ettlinger was a Special Collections librarian at the Brown University Library.

Mabbott, both educator and numismatist, taught English (1938- 1966) at Hunter College (N.Y.) and was president (1937-1945) of the Edgar Allan Poe Society (N.Y.) He was also awarded the Silver Medal of Merit by the American Numismatic Society in 1949.
