Hide Profile

American author and humorist E.B. White was born in Mount Vernon, N.Y., and graduated from Cornell. After graduation he worked on odd jobs and travelled; while working as a copywriter, he submitted some essays to the newly founded New Yorker, which led to his long-term relationship with the magazine. White is generally credited with supplying New Yorker's signature style, a clever, whimsical, and highly allusive tone; over the years he contributed everything from essays and stories to photo captions and fillers, and introduced the art of James Thurber to the pages of the magazine. White was considered one of the premier essayists of the 20th century, with a light, unobtrusive style that created a personal connection over a wide gamut of topics. He also created three classics of children's literature, including Charlotte's Web.
