Conrad Weiser was a Berks County farmer, tanner and president-judge who served as a colonial Indian agent and interpreter as well as Lieutenant Colonel and commander of the First Battalion of the Pennsylvania Regiment during the French and Indian War.

In 1748, on the English colonies' first official overture to the Indians west of the Alleghany Mountains, Weiser journeyed with George Croghan and Andrew Montour on behalf of Pennsylvania to Logstown on the Alleghany River. There the men met and formed an alliance with the various western tribes that was intended to counteract French influence in the Ohio region.
