Historian, educator and author; B.A., B.F.(finance) and M.A., U. of Pennsylvania, (1883, 1884 and 1886), LL.D., U. of Pennsylvania, (1911-hon.); faculty, Dept. of History, U. of Pennsylvania (1884-1934); curator, Henry Charles Lea Library of Medieval History (1933-1940); recognized as a leading American historian of sixteenth-century England of his generation; notable for his contributions to the development of professional organizations such as the American Historical Association.
