Rideing, William H. (William Henry), 1853-1918. Papers of William H. Rideing [manuscript], 1886-1911.
Title:
Papers of William H. Rideing [manuscript], 1886-1911.
In a letter, 1886 October 5, Rideing regrets not meeting with an unidentified correspondent and promises to communicate in a week or so. In a letter 1886 November 9 he asks status of the Boston (?) letter and articles on Living American Authors and also discusses at length boyhood series of articles. In an 1898 letter to Messrs. Roberts Brothers [publisher] he mentions separate mailing of a volume of verse by MacKenzie Bell and asks that it be read at the earliest possible moment and on what terms they may be disposed to publish it. In a lettter to [Samuel Sidney] McClure, n.d., Rideing promises that an article on [John Townsend?] Trowbridge will be sent either end of this week or beginning of the next. Two letters, n.d., concern a series of 24 articles on the boyhood of living American authors. Rideing proposes to "begin the series" with some writer who has written for boys, suggesting [Thomas Bailey?] Aldrich or Trowbridge; mentions Mark Twain as a capital subject but notes he probably would refuse to assist in preparation of the article; would accept $15.00 for each 1500 word article. In a letter, 1899, to M[ichael?] S. O'Donnell, Rideing solicits autographs from O'Donnell's collection to extra-illustrate his private copy of the Tennyson memoir. In a 1903 letter to O'Donnell, he thanks him for autographs and sends personal news. In a 1911 letter to O'Donnell, he regrets he has not yet found a Lord Wolsely autograph but will keep on trying.
