During World War II the Office of Price Administration (OPA) was the government agency that rationed most consumer goods and regulated their prices. Some of the rationed items included, tires, cars, gas, coffee, meats, and other food stuffs. OPA was in place for the duration of the war and continued operations until 1947.

During World War II rationing was designed to distribute scarce consumer goods reasonably and equitably among civilians. The Office of Price Administration (OPA) was the government agency responsible for rationing and price regulation of those consumer goods. Sugar and coffee were the first to be rationed. Soon other goods were rationed as the number of rationed items grew so did the red tape.
