Richard Strauss (1864-1949) was a German composer.

From the description of Richard Strauss audiocassette, undated [sound recording]. (Unknown). WorldCat record id: 122391808

This work was premiered in Munich on November 28, 1883, Hermann Levi conducting. Lahee's Annals of Music in America and Mueller's compendium of the repertoire of 27 major U.S. orchestras make no mention of a U.S. performance. Theodore Thomas conducted the world premiere of Richard Strauss's second symphony with the Philharmonic-Society of New York on December 13, 1884, and this performance is generally acknowledged as the first performance of Strauss in America. Thomas does not appear to have performed the Concertouverture, nor is it clear how he obtained a copy, though it is probable that Strauss gave him the manuscript during one of Thomas's trips to Europe, either in the summer of 1883 or 1884. The opus number was later withdrawn and given to the Lieder aus Letzte Blätter.

Richard Strauss was a composer, musician, and conductor who emerged as the most prestigious German composer of his day. Born in Munich, the son of a noted musician, he received a thorough education in music from his father. A child prodigy, he learned to play several instruments in his youth, and composed his first song at the age of six. During his long and productive life, he composed in many forms, but is probably best known for tone-poems and opera. He was also a respected musician, and a conductor renowned throughout Europe and North and South America.

German conductor and composer. Strauss and the famous critic Alfred Kerr produced a cycle of songs which was later published in a limited edition, DER KRÄMERSPIEGEL. "Krämer" is a derogatory term for merchant (huckster?); the cycle of songs is supposed to be an insult to publishers and their greediness.

Richard Strauss (1864-1949) was a German composer.

Richard Strauss was born June 11, 1864 in Munich, Germany. He was a renowned German composer of the late romantic era and early modern era. As a child, Strauss received his musical education from his father, Franz Strauss and wrote his first piece of music age six. Later in his youth, Strauss received private instruction in music theory and orchestration from the assistant conductor of the Munich Court Orchestra. In 1882, he attended Munich University where he studied Philosophy and Art History, however, he left his studies after approximately a year and later gained a position as assistant conductor to Hans von Bulow. Throughout his lifetime, Strauss delved fully into the musical world experimenting through tone poems, opera, solo work, chamber work and various other aspects. He married Pauline de Ahna on September 10, 1894. Richard Strauss wrote his last work in 1948 and died on September 8, 1949 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany.
