Patriarchal Christianity, or A chronological & historical enquiry into the origin and progress of true religion & idolatry : Stamford, 1731.
Manuscript, in a single hand, of a historical narration of Biblical events from the Creation to Exodus, supposed the final volume or volumes in the series "Patriarchal Christianity". The first volume here narrates the Creation to the Flood and includes calendars for the first year of the world and the year of the Flood, as well as "an Enquiry into the patriarchal Religion & their manner of worship." The second volume begins with the end of Deluge to Abraham's departure out of Egypt and includes calendars of "the year of promise to Abraham, & of the year in which he went down to Egypt." The volume also contains a prefatory letter "to the learned Sr Richard Ellys Barrt, etc" in which the author explains that "the ultimate end I had in this disquisition is to show as well as I was able, how Christianity is as old as the creation." He offers the volume to Ellys and praises him for his critical work on the New Testament, declaring, "Tis a rare and powerful example when gentlemen of your high rank outdoe their birth & fortune in the more valuable acquirements of learning." Also included are numerous genealogies, such as that from Adam and Eve to 12 generations later. The third volume, dated June 11, 1731, narrates the departure of Abraham out of Egypt to the Exodus. This volume contains an account of "the antient Egyptian Theology, from which that of the Druids is deriv'd"; a calendar of the year of the Exodus; and a prefatory dedication to Roger Gale which references their having visited a druidical site at Abury in Wiltshire together. The volumes also include numerous maps and illustrations. Inside the first volume is a pen and pencil drawing of "A View of the Druids temple at Abury. Mar. 31 1731." Volume 2 contains a pen drawing of plan of Noah's ark; a map of the Mediterranean; and, tipped in, a printed map of "Asiae Antiquissimae" showing the dispersal of the family of Noah after the flood, and printed with the name of William Stukeley M. D. The third volume begins with a pen-and-wash drawing of "The form of the antient Temple, as in Abrahams time" at El-Bethel; watercolor drawing of a ram upon an altar, taken out of Spon's "Miscellan."; a pen-and-wash drawing of a statue of "the Egyptian Jupiter Ammon"; an altar in the churchyard at Cambridge; an Egyptian god; and, laid in, a page of drawings of ancient Tyrian coins.

Title:
On the philosophy of pleasure, 1751 Oct 28 - Nov 15.
Manuscript on paper, in a single hand, of a treatise on the philosophy of pleasure and happiness as it corresponds with Christian beliefs, whereby "the body is no more to be excluded in our inquiry, than to be seperated from us, while we are in our mortal state; yet plesures merely corporeal is not the business of philosophic happiness, for they, beyond compare, are exceeded by those of the mind." The author, addressing at length the relationship between the sexes, writes that "the pleasure we are to reap from female conversation, in the light we are thinking of, must be chiefly mental, & tis as rare to be found, as tis excellent." Elsewhere, he criticizes Quakers and Methodists, asking, "Do we not justly accuse the quakers for taking literally our Savr's command, 'Swear not at all,'" and mentioning "a man now in Bedlam, a methodist as called in thir newfangled inventions, who pulled out one of his eyes." In support of his arguments, the author quotes from Milton's "Paradise Lost" throughout.
