[Album of portrait drawings], [ca. 1720-1750].

Album in which 22 portrait and other drawings have been mounted. Most are in ink and wash on paper, but a few are pencil or pen and ink on paper. Some are initialled or signed and dated by Stukeley. Profile medallion portrait subjects include Isaac Newton (2); Samuel Gale; Michel Maittaire; John, Duke of Montagu; Lady Roisia de Vere; and several mythological and Biblical subjects such as Noah and Hebe. Quarter-length and half-length portrait subjects include John, Duke of Montagu; Robert Maxwell of Brig Casterton; Adelard Stukeley; and Frances Stukeley (also portrayed in a mezzotint on a wash mount). Other drawings include a pen and ink and wash sketch of a sleeping nymph or goddess and pencil sketches of Classical themes. The volume also contains several portrait prints, two by Hollar.
