The Peabody Collection consists of 672 glass plate negatives in various sizes, 1054 film negatives in various sizes, 24 photograph albums, 887 loose photographs in a variety of formats, published works, and manuscript material, created and collected by Henry G. Peabody, 1859-1993 (bulk 1890s-1900s). The materials collectively describe Peabody's long career as a commercial landscape photographer working on both the east and west coasts of the United States. The photographs and negatives depict Peabody and his family; landscape views in New England, Canada, the western United States, California, and Mexico; Native Americans; city and landscape views in Great Britain, France, and Switzerland; portraits; architectural renderings; plants and animals; unidentified landscapes; and miscellaneous images. Additional photographers and photographic firms represented in the collection include Alexander Hesler, Charles F. Lummis, and Spence Air Photos. The published works contain photographs by Peabody. The manuscript material provides information about Peabody's negatives; contains catalogs of Peabody's works for sale; describes Peabody's commerical dealings as both a photographer and seller of photographic equipment; and contains ephemeral material collected by Peabody throughout his life.

Correspondence centers on decisions regarding mission affairs such as budgeting issues and governing, and the establishment of new missions at various locations throughout California. Four of the forty-two manuscripts in the box are not correspondence. Manuscripts 29 and 30 are summaries of matters at the mission at Monterey (Mission San Carlos Borromeo). Manuscript 13 is Viceroy Bucareli's decision to about the new mission in San Francisco (Mission San Francisco de Asʹis), and manuscript 39 is a report on one of the missions for the year 1779.

The Eugene Swarzwald Collection consists of 9,674 black and white photographs, negatives, a photograph album, magazine mock-ups, letters, and ephemera acquired between 1925 and 1968 by Eugene Swarzwald and the Swarzwald family for considered use in the magazine . Images depict California and the West with some coverage of the rest of the United States and international destinations. The collection contains photographs depicting general city views of communities in California, scenic views of wilderness areas, images of parks, schools and universities, museums, and points of historic interest (including California mining towns and missions). The collection is strong in subjects related to leisure and social and recreational activities, with particular emphasis on hotels, golf courses and country clubs, amusement parks, zoos, and beaches. Many of the photographs are by the Keystone Photo Service, a company founded by Eugene Swarzwald in Los Angeles in 1919. The photographs and negatives depict Peabody and his family; landscape views in New England, Canada, the western United States, California, and Mexico; Native Americans; city and landscape views in Great Britain, France, and Switzerland; portraits; architectural renderings; plants and animals; unidentified landscapes; and miscellaneous images. Additional photographers and photographic firms represented in the collection include Alexander Hesler, Charles F. Lummis, and Spence Air Photos. The published works contain photographs by Peabody. The letter specifies amounts of corn received at various points and gives the weekly consuption rate. Communications from Don Juan Soler with regard to the lack of food are referred to repeatedly. Soler may have penned this letter for Rivera y Moncada whose signature appears in a different hand at the end. The missions mentioned specifically include San Carlos [Borromeo] Carmelo, San Antonio [de Padua], and San Luis [Obispo de Tolosa].
