Fernando de Rivera y Moncada letter : Monterey, Calif. to Junipero Serra : ALS, 1775, October 23.

Letter from commandante Rivera y Moncada describes the shortage of food and its rationing to Junipero Serra, and asks what the missions and presidio will do if food can't be provided. The letter specifies amounts of corn received at various points and gives the weekly consuption rate. Communications from Don Juan Soler with regard to the lack of food are referred to repeatedly. Soler may have penned this letter for Rivera y Moncada whose signature appears in a different hand at the end. The missions mentioned specifically include San Carlos [Borromeo] Carmelo, San Antonio [de Padua], and San Luis [Obispo de Tolosa].
