This collection consists of the papers of the Boggs family, as well as the allied Blauvelt, Kearny and Lawrence families. The materials range in date from 1737 to 1950, and include correspondence; composition notebooks; diaries; estate, financial and legal papers; genealogies; and musical scores. Also included in the collection are estate papers for various individuals, Robert Hunter Morris, Robert Morris, (ca. 1745-1815) and Michael Kearny (1725-1797), that were maintained by Robert Boggs (1766-1831) in his duties as executor and attorney in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The largest quantity of letters is addressed to Peter D. Vroom (13 letters: January 1846-July 1852), including an 1851 letter from Bennington F. Randolph. Others of the letters are addressed to Thomas Fletcher of Philadelphia (7 letters: 1814-1841), Jonathan Rhea (3 letters: 1796-1811), Garret D. Wall (2 letters: 1845-1846) or Mrs. Jane Snyder of Ulster County, New York (5 letters and 2 other items: 1841-1868). Among the other recipients are Nicholas Belleville (1 letter: 1827), Charles Ewing (1 letter: 1825), James S. Nevius (1 letter: 1847), Ebenezer Tucker (1 letter: 1834) and Isaac H. Williamson (1 letter from Garret D. Wall: 1828?). Additional letters include three (1828-1831) written by a Mr. W. Dewees (?) of Washington, D.C., to different individuals. Correspondence and papers of Vroom, consisting chiefly of letters received by Vroom from a variety of individuals including J.H. Austin, Andrew Deutcher, Alfred Gale, P.B. Kennedy, James Parker, and John M. Wycoff. These letters deal with business, legal, and political affairs. There are a few personal letters, various legal papers and documents, and memoranda written by Vroom. The early material contains Vroom family letters and documents including letters to Vroom's father, Peter D. Vroom (1745-1831). Also of interest is Vroom's Latin-English vocabulary notebook kept during his junior year at Columbia College, 1807. The notebook contains a list of his classmates. In addition there is his 1808 Columbia College Commencement address.

Most of the letters discuss issues pertaining to Wall's legal practice and profession, with comments regarding financial and legal matters. Two of the letters are from Wall, as U.S. Senator, to J.K. Paulding, Secretary of the Navy, recommending individuals for appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy. One letter is from Senator Wall to Secretary of the Navy Mahlon Dickerson recommending an individual's appointment to Navy Surgeon.
