Joseph Clark (1751-1813), a Revolutionary War soldier and a 1781 graduate of the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University), served as a Presbyterian minister at Allentown in Mounmouth County from 1783 to 1796 and then at New Brunswick in Middlesex County until his death. Joseph Clark had three sons: eldest son John F. Clark (d. 1853), an 1807 graduate of the College of New Jersey, served as a Presbyterian minister in New Jersey (chiefly at Flemington in Hunterdon County) and, later, in New York State; second son Col. Peter I. Clark (1790-1863), also an 1807 graduate of the College of New Jersey, was a lawyer at Flemington who was active in the militia and state politics; youngest son William P. Clark (1796-1857), an 1814 graduate of Queens College (now Rutgers University), studied medicine under Moses Scott at New Brunswick and later practiced medicine at Belvidere in Warren County from 1825 until his death. Other family members were Abijah Hunt, a New York State resident who was the uncle of the three Clark brothers, and Belvidere resident Mary Sherrerd Clark (d. 1931), a granddaughter of the Rev. John F. Clark.
