Founded in Syracuse, N.Y. in 1921 as a business run by farmers for their benefit. A. Leal Bibbins built the Syracuse seeds division into one of the largest seed businesses in the country. He then moved to Buffalo as head of the mills division. Bibbins retired in 1947, and in 1964 the Cooperative GLF Exchange and the Eastern States Farmers Exchange merged to form Agway, Inc.
