Morton Adams oral history, 1964.

This interview covers Morton Adams' personal history and observations as a county extension agent and executive in the food processing industry. Topics include: his childhood and early education; his student experiences at Cornell University; his activities as an agricultural extension agent in Cayuga, Wayne, and St. Lawrence Counties, New York, including the organization of the Wayne County spray program and the Western New York Cherry Growers Association, and the promotion and marketing of New York State produce and livestock; his impressions of the administration of New York State Cooperative Extension; coordination between the New York State Farm Bureau, Cooperative Extension and the Agricultural Adjustment Administration during the 1930's and 1940's; his experiences with Alton Canning Company, including training field staff, encouraging Wayne County farmers to grow snap beans, and using brokerage firms; his observations of changes in sales, cost accounting, and technology at Alton Canning Company; his assessment of the future of the New York State food processing industry; the formation of Curtice-Burns, Inc. and Pro-Fac, Inc.; competition and cooperation among national and state processors; and the formation of the New York State Agricultural Businessmen's Council and its relationship to the New York State Conference Board of Farm Organizations.
