Conklin received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the New York State College of Agriculture at Cornell in 1949 and 1950; worked as a farm loan manager in the Delhi (New York) National Bank, 1950-52; served in the army as a corporal, 1952-54; was an assistant Cayuga County agricultural extension agent, 1954-59; and from 1959 to 1962 was associate editor and later editor of the AMERICAN AGRICULTURIST.
