Biographical notes:

Walter Jones was a student at William and Mary with Thomas Jefferson. He graduated from the University of Edinburgh with an M.D. in 1769. Upon his return to Virginia, he practiced medicine and served in the House of Delegates during the Revolution. He was a delegate to the convention at Annapolis and served in the U.S. Congress from 1797 to 1799.

Walter Jones was born 18 December 1745. His father was Thomas Jones and his mother was Elizabeth (Cocke) Jones. After graduating from the College of William and Mary, he studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. Jones established his practice in Northumberland County. He was elected a member of the American Philosophical Society, a member of the Virginia Convention of 1788, the Virginia House of Delegates and the United States House of Representatives. He died in Westmoreland County in 1815 and was buried in Northumberland County, Va.
