He also refers to [movie collaboration?] between Faulkner and Hughes, noting "all the stories I know now are barred farom the screen on acct of miscegenation...." Another letter of interest to Philip La Follette describes the development of characters and incidents in "Across the river and into the trees" and relates an incident from the Battle of the Bulge involving Col. Also included in the collection are personal letters, information relating to the professional activities of Taishoff (meetings, awards banquets, speeches, etc.), some items found on his desk when he died, and a small accumulation of books, magazines, pamphlets, photographs, awards, and other objects from his office. Virtually all of the material in the collection dates from the last two decades of Taishoff's life (circa 1962 –1982), with the vast majority of it dating from the last twelve years of his life. By this point, Taishoff had settled into a comfortable semi-retirement and, with the exception of the editorial department of Broadcasting, was involved less and less with the day-to-day operation of his business. There is very little information in his papers about his early life and career or the founding and day-to-day decision making at Broadcasting magazine.

Schroth, Raymond A. Schroth Research Papers for Sevareid Biogaphy, 1935-1994 bulk 1993-1994
Title:
Schroth Research Papers for Sevareid Biogaphy, 1935-1994 bulk 1993-1994
In 1995 Loyola University journalism professor Raymond A. Schroth, S.J., published The American Journey of Eric Sevareid, the culmination of two years of extensive research into the life of the CBS newsman who, for almost five decades, commented on the American experience. During a year-long sabbatical beginning in summer 1993, Fr. Schroth lived at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, where he spent countless hours examining the Eric Sevareid Collection at the Library of Congress. Author's inquiries in the book review sections of the New York Times and the Washington Post yielded responses from friends and colleagues as well as from ordinary fans with memories of Sevareid. Following every lead, Schroth examined the commentator's Norwegian/Upper Midwestern background by visiting North Dakota and Minnesota and contacted and interviewed scores of friends, family members and fellow journalists. The Schroth/Sevareid research papers feature Schroth's correspondence files and the notes (handwritten and typed) from thorough interviews he conducted with Sevareid acquaintances ranging from a childhood sweetheart to CBS luminaries Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather. Additional materials, Sevareid correspondence, broadcasts, etc. can be found in the Library of Congress and other archives.
