Knight was a San Francisco commercial photographer whose work documents the Bay Area scene, important local personalities, and numerous business activities. After he retired he was free to pursue his plan of following in Robert Louis Stevenson's footsteps around the world, study him, and photograph the places he lived in or wrote about. In 1988 he relocated to Scotland with his wife Dora. He died there on June 8, 2000.
