[Letters], 1917 Nov. 20-1933 June 24.
Seven letters--handwritten and typed--dated in London and Cranleigh (Surrey) between Nov. 20, 1917 and June 24, 1933, from English writer and critic Frank Swinnerton to J.B. Pinker and other members of his literary agency, including Eric Pinker, Ralph Pinker, and a Mr. Wichen, discussing literary matters. In his letters of April 16 and 22, 1924, addressed to Mr. Wichen and J.B. Pinker & Son, respectively, Swinnerton discusses the Italian translation rights to his work "Nocturne". In his letters of June 22 an 24, 1933 to J. Ralph Pinker, Swinner requests a file copy of "The travellers' library", a compilation of travel reading by Somerset Maugham, which includes among other pieces, Swinnerton's "Nocturne", Arnold Bennett's "The old wives' tale" and E.C. Bentley's "Trent's last case". An earlier letter of Nov. 20, 1917 notes the title change of Wilson Macnair's "Glass houses" (originally "Green clay"), published by Chatto & Windus in 1918. In other letters, Swinnerton arranges a lunch meeting with Eric Pinker; agrees to write articles; and questions royalty payments on a $1.50 Doubleday edition of "Nocturne."

James B. Pinker Papers 1900-1934
The papers in the Pinker archive at Northwestern University cover the period 1904-1934. All the correspondence is incoming to J.B. Pinker either from clients or from the organizations, firms, and individuals with whom he, and later his sons, negotiated. The 111 boxes of the archive contain original client correspondence files and many files from publishers, periodicals, translators, printing firms, readers, illustrators, theatre managers, etc. as well as other literary and dramatic agents with whom the Pinkers dealt. The correspondence reflects the wide geographical range of the clients: from Britain, America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, India, and South Africa, as well as from European countries. The alphabetical files also include some general correspondence: inquiries as to Pinker's availability and fees, permission requests for quoting, performances of plays, translations, serialization in foreign periodicals, and for securing various rights to clients' works. Invoices, both professional and personal, and other miscellany are included here.

Title:
Papers of James Joyce in the Charles E. Feinberg collection, 1904-1937.
The Charles E. Feinberg Collection contains about 160 letters and cards, the majority of which are Joyce's correspondence with London literary agent James B. Pinker, who began working with Joyce in 1915. The correspondence with Pinker documents Joyce's efforts to publish a number of his works, and to get existing works published in the United States. The collection also includes a copy of the 1927 International Protest against Samuel Roth's unauthorized publication of sections of Ulysses. Five names, written in pen, have been added to the long typed list of supporters of the protest and the voting record of the London Stage Society's governing board, which considered and rejected Joyce's Exiles for production in July of 1916. In addition to the Pinker correspondence are letters to Joyce from B.W. Huebsch and Lawrence Pollinger, James Stephens, Frank Budgen, T. Sturge Moore, James Starkey, Nora Joyce, and Paul Léon. There are also three letters, one from Caresse Crosby to J.W.N. Sullivan, one from Sullivan to Crosby, and one from Joyce to Harry and Caresse Crosby.
