Recordings of oral history interviews with former members of the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate. The interviews were chiefly conducted by staff members or by college professors, though a few of the interviews were prepared under other oral history programs. Preliminary research was undertaken at the Library of Congress and many state and local libraries; the personal papers of congressmen and congresswomen were frequently consulted before the interviews began. Over sixty congressmen and congresswomen are interviewed including Emanuel Celler, Hiram Fong, Vance Hartke, James Roosevelt, Julia Butler Hansen, and Robert Taft.
