Included in this series are materials related to his service as national director of the Independent Citizens Committee of the Arts, Sciences and Professions, as chairman of the California State Democratic Central Committee, and as a member of the Democratic National Committee. Also included in this series are materials related to James Roosevelt's series of political commentary radio broadcasts, his 1950 campaign for Governor of the State of California, and his 1954 campaign for the United States House of Representatives.

James Roosevelt II (December 23, 1907 – August 13, 1991) was an American businessman, Marine, activist, and Democratic Party politician. The oldest son of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt, he received the Navy Cross for extraordinary heroism while serving as a Marine Corps officer during World War II.
