Title:
Papers, 1795-1948.
Papers, 1795-1948, n.d., including genealogical records, wills, lawsuits, contracts, personal letters, oversized items, bank correspondence, accounts, receipts, real estate records, military records and other types of records. The first series contains basic genealogical information, the second series contains the will of John Morrett (1795) leaving slaves and property to his children, the wills of Mary and Eliza Jane Crommelin (1887-1898), various lawsuits brought against the Crommelin family and property contracts transferring real estate amongst the Crommelin family. The third series contains personal correspondence of the Crommelin family from 1840-1945. The years 1840-1870 especially reveal a great deal of information about antebellum and post Civil War society and customs. The remaining correspondence is from various family members offering views of family squabbles, overseas relatives, Montgomery society and France and Germany of the 1930's. The fourth series includes some financial records of the Crommelin family, particularly focusing on rental properties in Montgomery, supply orders for the Crommelin plantation, checks and receipts and myriad attempts to sell property in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The last four series include some Navy records of Vice Admiral Henry Crommelin (d. ca. 1970), various family photographs, the majority unidentified, memo notebooks of John G., Quentin and Henry Crommelin, and miscellaneous articles.
