A Century of Progress International Exposition was held in Chicago during the summers of 1933 and 1934. The fair celebrated the scientific and technological advances made in the century since the founding of Chicago in 1833. The main features of the fair included exhibits depicting the application of scientific priciples to consumer and other industries; historical replicas; pavillions of the state and federal governments; and foreign villages. Under the direction of Lenox Riley Lohr, the general manager, the exposition met all of its financial obligations and closed with surplus funds, which were distributed among Chicago charities.

A Century of Progress was the second international exposition held in Chicago during the 40 year period between the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition and 1933. Held along the lakefront from June 1-November 1, 1933, and then again from May 26-October 31, 1934, the fairgrounds bordered 37th Street on the south and Roosevelt Road on the north. Northerly Island, today known as Meig's Field, also figured prominently as a site for fair buildings and activities. Century of Progress buildings, designed in a striking art deco style, celebrated achievements in art and sculpture, food and agriculture, religion, science, the social sciences, the home and industrial arts, and the horticultural arts. International participation was marked by exhibits and foreign villages.

A Century of Progress was the name given to the 1933 World's Fair, held along the lakefront of Chicago from June 1-November 1, 1933, and May 26-October 31, 1934. This was the second international exposition held in Chicago during a 40 year period: the first was the World's Columbian Exposition, which in 1893 played host to over 27 million people in Jackson Park on the city's South Side. A Century of Progress was equally as popular. The fairgrounds bordered 37th Street on the South and Roosevelt Road on the North. Northerly Island, today known as Meig's Field, also figured prominently as a site for fair buildings and activities.
