Benjamin ("Benne") Hunt was a Quaker from Burlington County, New Jersey. He was born the 19th of the 11th month 1780 to John and Esther (Warrington) Hunt. In 1806 he married Phebe Cowperthwaite, daughter of Hugh Cowperthwaite; the couple had seven children together. Hunt was a member of Evesham Monthly Meeting and Chester Monthly Meeting. He was killed on November 27, 1822, just after his 42nd birthday, while digging for marlstone. As his father recorded in his journal, "About one o'clock, the bank caved in and covered up one of the [other] men, all but his head and nose. Whilst they were digging him out, the earth caved in the second time, and some ironstone, being throwed up on the bank, fell in and struck our dear son on the breast and covered him up to the knees. They quickly got him dug loose but he told them he was so hurt he could not live."
