Feinberg, Charles E., 1899-1988
Variant namesA famous collector of Walt Whitman manuscripts, he also had a large library of rare books and historical manuscripts. Born in London and raised in Peterborough, Ontario, one of eight children, he worked in his father's store, leaving school after the 7th grade. He came to Detroit in 1922 and sold shoes and oil burners, later became president Argo Oil Company. He was one of the founders of the friends of the Detroit Public LIbrary and has taken part in many community organizations. He was married and had three children. (blue index cards)
