Conference hosted by the University of Guelph to celebrate the life and influence of Lucy Maud Montgomery, whose classic "Anne of Green Gables" was first published in 1908. An exhibition "Inside and Out: the Lives of L.M. Montgomery" will be at the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre, Oct. 24-Dec. 2008.

The Woolner jug was made in 1826 for Harriet Kemp, Montgomery's great-grandmother's sister, as a gift from her fiance. Harriet's sister, Sarah Kemp Woolner, brought it to P.E.I. from England in 1832. Lucy Woolner Macneill later passed it on to her granddaughter L.M. Montgomery in 1911 who took it with her to Leaskdale, Ont.

The farmhouse belonged to Alexander and Lucy Macneill, grandparents of L.M. Montgomery. She lived here until the grandmother died in 1911, then left to be married. Here Montgomery also wrote four of her novels, the most famous one being "Anne of Green Gables"
