Charles Dickens produced amateur theatricals at his Tavistock House Theatre in London. He assisted Wilkie Collins in writing "The frozen deep", managed the production, and played the part of Richard Wardour in the play. It opened in January 1857; June performances were to benefit the widow and daughter of Dickens's recently deceased friend, Douglas Jerrold.
