Biographical notes:

John Uri Lloyd was a pioneer in pharmacy, colloidal chemistry, pharmacognosy, and the American materia medica, as well as a novelist and local historian.

His most important contributions were in the fields of botanical medicines, and standardization of drug manufacturing. He led the way in developing ethical drugs, and quality in the drug industry. His research resulted in the addition of a large number of botanical drugs. He was a professor of chemistry in the Eclectic Medical College of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati School of Pharmacy. He was an important regional historian and novelist, writing about the Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati areas.
