[Journal of proceedings in the House of Commons] 1660 25 Apr to 4 Jun, [ca. 1660].
Manuscript, in a single hand, of a journal of the proceedings of the House of Commons in 1660. Much of the manuscript is given to recording the proceedings related to the restoration of King Charles II, beginning with his declaration of Breda along with Parliament's reception of it. The manuscript also records the appointment of a committee to consider the King's letters and declaration and to prepare bills accordingly; another committee to report on what acts or orders have been passed inconsistent with the government by the King; a resolution for ministers of London and Westminster to give thanks to God for the King's return to the throne; and naming of messengers from the House with the answer to the King's letters. Other entries record the pursuits and trials of regicides such as John Phelps and Sir Henry Mildmay; election disputes; and a list of wages due to ships of the Royal Navy, along with their numbers of men and guns.

First Calais roll of arms , ca. 1590-1600.
Title:
First Calais roll of arms , ca. 1590-1600.
The present manuscript belongs to the first of two variant versions of the Calais Roll in circulation during the later sixteenth century. It includes details of the military retinues of each peer and knight as well as a summary of the 700 ships and more than 14,000 mariners of the English fleet, arranged by home port, and a few notes of other expeditionary expenses. The manuscript is skillfully and calligraphically designed and executed, with a colored frontispiece of the arms of Edward III, encircled by the Garter, and contains 116 heraldic coats of arms, professionally tricked. The decorative scheme of the manuscript is however unfinished, with only one of the arms colored in, although the scribe's instructions to the illuminator can be seen.

Manuscripts, in multiple hands, of chronological journals of proceedings in the House of Commons, including bills, resolutions, committee appointments, and orders of the house. The first volume, though it also contains appointments of committees and hearings of petitions concerning false elections, primarily documents the prosecution of the Popish Plot in 1678. The following four volumes contain more routine Parliamentary activities, including hearing petitions regarding rent disputes; the appointment of a committee to inspect the offices of the Navy; and bills for raising money in Norwich to repair walls and cleanse the river; laying an imposition on hearths and stoves; and for the preservation of the king's stores of powder and ammunition.

There are full-page drawings of ships which are identified, as well as drawings at the head of poems, and ones inserted in the text. The full-page drawings of British Royal Navy ships identified include H.M.S. Nankin (1850), H.M. Gun Vessel Wrangler (1854), H.M.S. Flying Fish (1855), and the whaling Schooner Isabella, which sunk in 1835. After several blank pages there is a page with an illustration of a ship and a key identifying its parts.
