Title:
Letters, 1805-1861.
Include a letter, 23 January 1805, of David Henley while in Maryville, Tenn., to John F. Watson in New Orleans, inquiring about the pestilence in New Orleans, describing his agricultural pursuits in Maryville, financial concerns, a comparison of his life with that of Cincinnatus, and death of old friends. Also include letter, 24 May 1861, of Charles C. Wellford in Fredericksburg, Va., to General Daniel Ruggles, expressing his concern that requiring military service from overseers puts slaveowners in a position of having inadequate manpower to manage the plantation slaves.
