Confederate Army records, 1861-1865, and other miscellaneous documents related to the Confederacy or to Confederate states. They include reports of operations against the enemy, September-December, 1862, submitted by unit commanders to Confederate H.Q., Trans-Mississippi Department, Little Rock (Ark.); seven lists of Confederate prisoners paroled by the Union Army at Richmond (Va.) in April 1865, and a roll of prisoners released from Libby Prison on April 10, 1865; miscellaneous general orders; morning reports of various Confederate prisons and hospitals; muster rolls; returns of clothing and provisions; certificates; military passes; requisitions; applications for exemption from military service; papers connected with the arrest of a deserter; telegrams and official correspondence, including a letter from Brigadier General M. Jeff. Thompson to Daniel Ruggles; and a register of people passing over Charleston New Bridge on June 1, 1863. Non-military documents include some official correspondence from the State of South Carolina; papers relating to the settlement of an estate in Georgia; a list of people sworn in as Confederate citizens in the Eastern District of Virginia; numerous blank forms related to Confederate tax or post office business; a bond issued by the Confederacy; some personal correspondence, with occasional manuscript maps; and a typescript recording the experiences of Leonidas Sebastian Daniel as a Confederate Army telegrapher in Vicksburg, 1861-1863, as condensed by his daughter, Louise C. Daniel, in 1955.
