Bert Cochran (1916-1984) was a Trotskyist active in the Communist League of America (1934), the American Workers Party (1935-37), in the Appeal Group within the Socialist Party, and in the automobile industry (1930s-40s), first in Cleveland within the Mechanics Educational Society of America, then in Detroit as head of the Socialist Workers Party Auto Fraction and as an activist within the United Automobile Workers of America. Title:
Edith and Arthur Fox collection. [1934-1979]
Both Edith and Arthur Fox were long-time political and labor activists in Detroit. They were employed in the auto industry and militantly involved in union work, he in Local 600 (Ford Rouge Plant) and she in Local 3 (Dodge Main in Hamtramck). The collection has letters, pamphlets, election material, and shop papers which document their involvement in a number of dissident groups within the United Auto Workers, including the United National Caucus which lobbied for a more democratic union structure. As members of the Trotskyite Socialist Workers Party they collected a good deal of internal party material from the late 1930's to the Vietnam War era.

Title:
George James Saul "The making of a rebel in America : an unfinished autobiography". Draft, 1969.
The bulk of the autobiography concerns Saul's life prior to his becoming involved with the union movement. The aspects of Saul's life discussed include his childhood in Colorado, his experiences in the army during World War I, and his years as a college student in Denver during the 1920's. The latter part of the manuscript cursorily covers Saul's union activities, including his participation in the Colorado Fuel and Iron and Gastonia strikes. Also included in the latter part is a brief discussion of the formation of the UAW in Detroit. The manuscript also briefly covers the impact of the Sacco and Vanzetti case on the development of Saul's radicalism; the need to organize black workers, particularly in the South; the author's reasons for leaving the union movement; and his reasons for defecting to Trotskyism. Consists of a single draft of an uncompleted autobiography.
